Data Protection and Privacy Counsel
Own GDPR compliance for a finance app that handles people's transactions: records, impact assessments, contracts and the privacy texts members actually read.
RoyalPay processes financial data on behalf of its members, offers an AI conversation on its King plan and plans read-only bank connections. Getting privacy right is part of the product. You will work with our Chief Compliance Officer and Chief Technology Officer and report to the Chief Compliance Officer.
What you will do
- Keep the records of processing (Art. 30 GDPR) and write and update data protection impact assessments (Art. 35 GDPR) for bank data, Royal Advisor and new features.
- Negotiate and maintain data processing agreements with hosting, email, AI and bank data providers, including transfers outside the EEA.
- Keep the Privacy Policy, the Terms of Use and the in-app notices accurate and readable in plain language.
- Answer data subject requests and help handle any personal data breach within the legal deadlines.
- Review new features before they ship, including the EU AI Act duties that apply to Royal Advisor.
What you bring
- A law degree or an equivalent qualification, and at least four years of practical data protection work.
- A privacy certification such as CIPP/E, or the commitment to complete one in your first year.
- Experience in financial services or another sector that handles sensitive data.
- Clear writing in English at C1 or better.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of PSD2 and open banking consent.
- Experience with US state privacy laws.
Contract and pay
This is a remote role for people living in a country of the European Union or the European Economic Area. Royal Payment Solutions, LLC engages you as an independent contractor under a written service agreement, so you need to be registered as self-employed or run your own company in your country, and you take care of your own tax and social insurance. You keep the independence the law expects of a contractor: you organise your own working time within the agreed hours and use your own equipment. If the law of your country would treat this work as employment, tell us before you sign and we will discuss engaging you through an employer of record instead.
The range in this advert is an annual fee in euros for a full-time engagement of about 40 hours a week, before tax and excluding VAT, invoiced monthly in equal parts and paid within 14 days by bank transfer. Where you start in the range depends on your experience and on the interviews.
We never ask about your current or past pay. Equal pay for equal work applies to everyone in the team.
How we hire
- Send a CV, or a link to your work, and a few lines about why this role. No cover letter template needed.
- A 30-minute video call with the person you would work with most.
- A short practical task that reflects the real work. If it takes more than an hour, we pay for your time at a rate agreed with you in advance.
- A final conversation with our Chief Executive Officer, then a written offer.
We answer every application, including a no, usually within ten working days.
